ORIGINS
The ska is born in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, finishing the decade of 1950, in a moment in which the population starts flowing of the rural way into the urban one. In the cities the inhabitants were congregating in squares where the sound systems were puncturing the last American innovations of jazz, soul and, especially, rhythm and blues. In a beginning it was a question of vans with a noisy and primitive sound system.
In 70 the ska, thanks to the Jamaican immigrants rudeboys, travels to England where it is mixed by the punk turning out to be a more rapid and forceful sound but supporting the happy and dance style. The ideology of these new rudies is less violent and it(he,she) will face the wave of racism promoted by the increasing current of extreme right of the country. The rudies will establish this way an attitude unconformist and anti-system that was own of the punk.
